Wayne McGilbert Bescher

Wayne McGilbert Bescher, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Heartland Living and Rehab in Greensboro, NC.

Wayne was born in Guilford County on May 12, 1945, the son of the late Walter Raeford Bescher and Lena Woods Shaut. He was a 1964 graduate of Gibsonville High School where he excelled in football and basketball. Wayne was an avid golfer which led to a career as a golf pro at Shillelagh Golf Course and Stoney Creek Golf Club. He was also the owner/operator of Hole-N-One Golf Shop and Hackers Haven. Wayne’s passion for golf led to many excursions, including Pebble Beach and Scotland. He was a fan of the Carolina Panthers, Duke and Nascar.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan Ball Bescher of High Point; son, Chris Bescher and wife Terri of Hillsborough; daughter, Lori Bescher of Burlington; sister, Linda Gilliam and husband Luke of Graham; brothers, Ray Bescher and wife Vera of Manning, SC; Al Bescher and wife Jeannie of Manning, SC; special aunt, Geraldine Overman of Burlington; and former wife and friends, Georgia and Gene Terrell of Mebane.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents Vernon and Grace Woods and nephew Bo Gauldin.
