Shelby Jean (Carthen) Short

McMinnville Tennessee,

Shelby Jean Carthen Short, 85 of McMinnville formerly of Burlington passed away peacefully on August 9, 2023. 

Shelby was born in Orange County on September 10, 1937 a daughter of the late Edward Carthen and Bertha Ashley Carthen. She attended Durham High School and worked as a caregiver for most of her life. Shelby was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Sharyn Hancock, a grandson, Jammey Sullivan and her sister, Nita Knowles. 

Surviving are her three children, Kathy Sullivan (Willie Paschal), Steve Hancock (Joni West) and DeeAnne Cross (Tim); seven grandchildren, Jason Sullivan, Joseph Armstrong, Bryan Cross, Callie Cross, Braydon Sullivan, Steve Hancock and Crystal Hancock; nine great grandchildren, Chase Sullivan, Meaghan Sullivan, Kayla Sullivan, Hunter Sullivan, Priscilla Sullivan, Madison Sullivan, Gabriel Hancock, Grayson Hancock and Robey Anne Hancock; a special niece, Carol Alford; her special friend, Jennifer Ford and numerous other family members and good friends. 

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday at Omega Funeral Service & Crematory Chapel. Private interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the service time at Omega Funeral Service & Crematory.
