Russell William Mitchell

Russell Mitchell, 97, of 211 Laurel Hill Drive, Burlington, NC, passed away on September 8, 2023, at Hospice of Alamance.

Russell was born in Arden, WV on August 15, 1926, the son of Monzel “Mitch” Mitchell and Daisy Moats Mitchell. He was employed as a coal miner for many years and was owner of Mitchell’s Gun Shop in Teter Creek Lake, WV.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Betty Jane Rowe Mitchell.

Surviving are daughter Shirley O’Brien and son Gene Mitchell with whom he lived with for many years. A son Donald Mitchell and his wife, Joyce, who reside in West Virginia. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Elizabeth Rifenburg and husband, Tony of Wilmington, NC, and Robert “Rocky” Brown and wife, Becky of Statesboro, GA. Also, a great grandson, Ryan Mitchell Brown of Statesboro, GA.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at I. O. O. F. Cemetery on October 27, 2023, in Flemington, WV with Rev Burl Haddix officiating. The family will receive friends at Flemington Methodist Church following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to your local Hospice.
