Rosemarie Gavasto, 79, left our lives on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Rose is survived by her two children, Paula M. Gavasto and Justin P. Gavasto, her two grandchildren Linsey Brooke Gavasto and Mary-Scott Gavasto, her brother Gary E. Zuccarelli and his
wife, Kathy. We are especially grateful for the love and support of Fran McKenna and family, as well as, Danielle Wheeler.
Per her wishes, cremation took place at Omega Funeral Service and Crematory in Burlington, NC. The family held a private Catholic burial service on May 6, 2023, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Her urn is now in her home beside her beloved husband Paul’s urn. In lieu of flowers, Rose requested donations be made to Children International (www.children.org) in her memory.
Rosemarie was born in New York and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Clarion University in Pennsylvania. Rosemarie and her family lived in New Kensington/Arnold, PA until the late 1980s. The family moved to Burlington, North Carolina where Rose and Paul lived for the rest of their lives. Rosemarie was known to her friends as Rosie and to her students as Mrs. G. Her passion was teaching, and she cared deeply about every student. She strived to ensure her students believed they were brave, strong, and loved. She retired from Marvin B. Smith Elementary School after many years of service. Before her illness took hold, she loved to knit, read, and watch every Duke basketball game. She volunteered with Hospice, attended church weekly, and enjoyed weekends at the lake with Paul. Paul and Rose traveled frequently to Key West and Key Largo in Florida to visit their son Justin and his children Linsey and Mary-Scott. We knew our mom as loving, supportive, and generous. She is greatly missed but our light will guide her home. You may share an online condolence by visiting www.omegafsc.com.
