Robert Carter, Jr. Obituary

Robert Lawrence Carter, Jr., 71 of Burlington, entered eternal life on Friday January 27, 2023. He was a native of Alamance County and was born on November 27, 1951. He was the second child born to Robert Lawrence Carter, Sr., and Liz Lewis Carter Dixon, both deceased. He was also predeceased by his step father, Troy Dixon and an infant sister.  More fondly known as Robbie, he was married for 27 years to Jo Anne Loy Carter, who survives.  They remained friends for 52 years, and she was his caregiver until his death.

Robbie and JoAnne were blessed with five children, fourteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy. His children include Brian Carter and wife Jennifer of Burlington, Daniel Carter and wife Penny of Burlington, Janna Carter Wimbish and husband Chris of Burlington, Mindy Carter Wertheim and husband Darren of Whittsett,  and Paul Carter of Burlington. His grandchildren include Megan Carter Barker and husband Gibson, Emily Carter, Chase Carter,  Zachery Carter, Noah Carter, Kaycie Braxton, Brandy Carter, Ashley Carter, Tucker Wimbish, Hunter Wimbish, Peyton Wimbish, Alex Burton, Summer Evans and husband Delaurance, and Brayden Wertheim. Robbie was a graduate of Eastern Alamance High School and Alamance Community College. He  served our country in the United Stated Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam achieving a rank of SP5. He worked hard as the patriarch of a very large family and loved to read in his spare time.  There was always a pile of books by his chair. He spent some of his working career in the grocery industry and later served as a prison guard. He finished his career back in uniform as a surveillance probation officer in Alamance County. Robbie was a member of Friendship Church in Burlington.

Robbie was stricken with a form of dementia and spent his final days surrounded by his children, his grands, and JoAnne at the home of his brother-in-law, Donald Drew Loy in the Friendship Community. There was much love and laughter as he shared special moments with his loving family in his final years.

A celebration of Robbie’s  life, with military honors, will be held at Friendship Church located at 4612 Friendship Patterson Mill Road, Burlington, on February 15, 2023, at two o’clock in the afternoon.
