Phil Laughlin, 69, passed away peacefully at his home, on October 4, 2020.
Phil attended East Carolina University, and Mid Atlantic Christian University. He received his Masters in counseling at NC Central University. He started Campus Christian Fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill, where he was Campus Minister from 1976-1982. He was employed for many years at Alamance County DSS where his last position was Director of Child Protective Services. Phil loved playing guitar and had his own beach band, Seabreeze; and most recently played with the Rick Strickland Band, from SC. He was also in Contemporary Christian bands, IHS, and Reconciled.
Phil was the son of Hilda Laughlin and the late Jack Laughlin.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sherry Laughlin. Two sisters, Angela Shatterly, and Lisa Crofoot, and husband George. His daughter Carrie Hawk, and husband Michael, son Matthew Laughlin. Grandchildren; Makayla Laughlin, Rylan & Britton Rivard, Kaitlyn, Landon and Jaleigh Hawk.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2pm on October 17, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Haw River. Dress is casual, and feel free to wear Phil’s “Life is Good” Tshirt. The service will also be livestreamed on Phil Laughlin’s facebook page. The family will receive friends following the service, or at other times at the family home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mid Atlantic Christian University, in Elizabeth City, NC.
