Paul Michael Gavasto, 78, drifted on to his next destination Wednesday, May 11, 2022, in the early morning. His children, Paula M. Gavasto and Justin P. Gavasto were by his side during this transition. His soul was released from the worn-out shell of a body, and he is now exploring the universe.
Paul is survived by his wife, Rosemarie Gavasto; his two children, Paula & Justin; his two grandchildren Linsey Brooke Gavasto and Mary-Scott Gavasto; his brother-in-law Gary Zuccarelli and his wife Kathy. We are grateful for Dad’s best friend, Fran McKenna and family, who are an integral part of our family.
Per his wishes, Paul’s remains will be cremated at Omega Funeral Service & Crematory in Burlington, NC. A memorial gathering will be held at his garage in Burlington, NC in the near future. In lieu of flowers, Paul requested donations be made to the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission, preferably either the Wildlife Diversity Endowment Fund or the NC Nongame & Endangered Wildlife Fund @ ncwildlife.org.
Paul was born in Harrisburg, PA. He survived polio as a young boy. Paul attained an Associate’s degree in drafting and engineering and spent the majority of his career with ALCOA. Paul and his family lived in New Kensington/Arnold, PA before moving to North Carolina in the late 1980s. Paul worked for Permatech, Inc. located in Graham, NC until his retirement. Paul’s favorite activities were fishing, model trains, cooking and boating. Paul & Rose traveled to Key West frequently to spend time with their grandchildren and their son, Justin.
Our Dad died a very loved and important man. We knew our dad and husband as humble, supportive and someone who listened carefully and attentively when we needed advice. Our Dad spent the remaining years of his life on his own terms and could be found sitting in the garage with a cup of coffee smoking Phillies Blunt cigars. He will be missed but our light will guide him home.
