Mary Ellen Delaney

Mary Ellen Delaney, 74, passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer onAugust 17th , 2023 in Burlington, North Carolina.

Mary Ellen was born in 1949 in NewYork, NY. She attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School, Holy Cross Academy for high school, and graduated from Immaculata College in Pennsylvania with a degree in sociology (now Immaculata University). She spent her entire working career with the New York “phone company”, ultimately retiring from Verizon as manager of
government accounts.
 
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen Delaney, husband Richard Smith, and brother’s Richard & Bill Delaney. She was survived by her son, Evan Smith (wife Michelle) four grandchildren (Liam, Haddon, Grayson & Warren), and her three sisters Patti Dentice, Geri Delaney & Gina Shouldis along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.
 
Mary Ellen was the oldest of six, the Delaney ‘clan’, she took the responsibility of being the oldest to heart and always kept a watchful eye on her siblings throughout her life. New York City was home, she seldom felt the need to leave what she considered to be the greatest city on earth, only in the years spent in college was she away from “the city”. Her greatest joy came from spending quality time with the many friends she made over her lifetime and her large extended family.
