Jo Anne Loy Carter, 71 of Burlington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2023. She was born in Alamance County on November 12, 1951, to Donald and Gladys Loy, both deceased. Jo Anne was married to Robert L. Carter, Jr., more fondly known as Robbie, for 27 years, and they remained friends until his death earlier this year.
JoAnne was blessed with five children, fourteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy and who will carry on her legacy. Her children include Brian Carter and wife Jennifer of Burlington, Daniel Carter and wife Penny of Burlington, Janna Carter Wimbish and husband Chris of Burlington, Mindy Carter Wertheim and husband Darren of Whitsett, and Paul Carter of Burlington. Her grandchildren include Megan Carter Barker and husband Gibson, Emily Carter and boyfriend George DeSimone, Chase Carter, Zachary Carter, Noah Carter, Kaycie Braxton, Brandy Carter Straughan and husband Gene, Ashley Carter, Tucker Wimbish, Hunter Wimbish, Payton Wimbish, Alex Burton, Summer Evans and husband Delaurance, and Brayden Wertheim. Great Grandchildren include Josiah Evans, Emma Evans and Skylar Carter. JoAnne was a graduate of Southern High School and Alamance Community College with a business degree. She worked in the library at Graham Middle School for many years and later at CVS in Glen Raven as a pharmacy technician. Though JoAnne always worked outside the home, her most important work was loving, caring for and of course, spoiling her family. She was their biggest cheerleader and always proud to celebrate birthdays, graduations, and weddings. She was known to cook enough to feed a small army and was notorious for being the last one to arrive at family functions. She never missed a ball game or a band concert and even drove the bus on band trips. JoAnne was a generous and loving soul who practiced love, patience and forgiveness naturally. She made being a good mother her life’s mission.
A celebration of JoAnne’s life will be held at Friendship Church located at 4612 Friendship Patterson Mill Road, Burlington, on Saturday, May 27 at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. The family will greet guests after the service in the fellowship hall.
Memorial gifts or donations can be given to the Nursery Fund at Friendship Church, Burlington, N.C.
