Irma Jean Smith

Irma Jean Swaney Smith, 89, of Gibsonville passed away peacefully at the home of her caregiver on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.

Irma was born in Guilford County on July 14, 1933 a daughter of the late Ernest Paul Cauthren and Mary Swaney Cauthren. She was the co owner of several whole food distributors and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and sister.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter Robert “WR” Smith, Jr. and a sister, Becky Faulkner.

Surviving are her three sons, Charles “Chuck” Smith (Lou Ann), Clifford Smith (Pat) and Walter Robert Smith, III; four grandchildren, Steve Smith, Barry Summers, David Williams and Todd Williams; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Nancy Lovejoy and Libby Latta; and three brothers, Bill Cauthren, Frank Cauthren and Rev. Bob Cauthren.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Hopedale Church. The family will receive friends from 11-12 noon prior to the service at the church.
