Eddie Rascoe, Sr. Obituary

Burlington

Eddie Wayne Rascoe, 69, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 25, 2018, surrounded by family following an extended illness. Born and raised in Burlington, NC, he was the son of Clarence L. Rascoe and Elma Walker Rascoe.

In high school, Eddie was an accomplished cellist, recognized for his musical talent. After graduating from Williams High School, Eddie completed his apprenticeship as a Tool and Die Maker at the Newport News Shipping and Dry-docks in Virginia. He returned to Burlington to continue a lengthy career as machinist, small business owner, and team leader in electrical and mechanical reclamation.

Eddie led a full life with his family, enjoying his two favorite hobbies, fishing and building car engines. He loved fishing during his leisure time, either traveling to the NC coast for surf fishing or heading to western NC streams for trout. His enthusiasm for fishing was contagious and Eddie frequently invited novices to join him in his fishing expeditions. He took joy in watching others learn to fish, patiently teaching others how to bait hooks, remove fish, and how to retrieve snared lines. Eddie was a passionate car enthusiast, frequenting car shows with his cousin, Henry Chandler, and rebuilding antique cars and engines.  He could spend hours describing makes and models of cars to any willing listener.

Most importantly, Eddie loved spending time with his family and friends. It was during those hours he was most thankful for those who surrounded him with love and affection.

Eddie is survived by his son, Eddie W. Rascoe II, and his wife Shannon; granddaughter, Kathryn Smith, and grandson, Kadin Rascoe.  He is also survived by his wife, Susan Fitch Rascoe and her children, as well as his sisters, Betty Loy and husband Dan, and Kathy Bradham and husband Doug.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Elizabeth Clay Smith.
