Doris Ann McIntyre (Sasser) Haywood, 81, died on March 24, 2018 at Hospice & Palliative Care Center, Burlington, North Carolina.
Ms. Haywood was born November 19, 1936, in Montgomery County, North Carolina, the daughter of Charlie Cohen and Carrie Mae Jarrell McIntyre.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by spouses, Jesse Clarence Sasser, Jr. and Roy Everette Haywood, Sr.; and two brothers, Joseph William “Jake” McIntyre and Ted McIntyre.
She is survived by one daughter, Julie Christine Haywood Cozort (Stuart III) of Elon, NC; two step-sons, Roy Everette Haywood Jr. (Karen) of Fairhope, AL, and Joseph Lee “Joey” Haywood (Karen) of Asheboro, NC; one sister, Minnie Lee McIntyre Poole of Troy, NC, two brothers, Jack McIntyre (Jo) of Cana, VA, and Henry “Hank” McIntyre (Quida) of Bonifay, FL; one grandchild, Stuart Lee “Buck” Cozort IV (Danielle), of Burlington, NC, and five step grandchildren, Adam Everette Haywood (Jordan) of Boston, MA, Joseph Clay Haywood (Kendi) of Hampstead, NC, Nathan Stanford Haywood (fiance, Stephanie) of Charlottesville, VA, Caleb Smith Haywood of Boone, NC, Kathryn Kyndall Haywood (fiance, Jourdan Beaumont) of Fairhope, AL; two step great-grandchildren, Joseph Clay Haywood, Jr., and George Everette Haywood, and a multitude of cousins and friends.
Doris attended school at Troy, NC. She graduated from Montgomery Technical Institute and Gardner Webb College and held a CPS certificate. Her working career included Cress Stores, Russell Hosiery, Atlantic Telephone & Telegraph, Central Telephone Company, the North Carolina Community College System, Jordan Lumber & Supply, the Vernon Law Firm, and A Cleaner World.
She was a member of Troy Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Battle of Alamance chapter. Her hobbies included sewing, flower gardening, and genealogy research. In addition to embracing Christianity at an early age, Doris’ greatest treasures were the love, affection, and support of her ever-expanding circle of family members and friends.
To avoid conflicting with significant events of her grandchildren, Doris requested her service be postponed. The Memorial service will be held May 12, 2018, at 11:00, Troy Presbyterian Church, 202 E Main St, Troy, NC.
Visits with family and refreshments will follow service in the church fellowship hall.
