Christopher "Chris" Michael Chilson

Christopher Michael Chilson, born August 24, 1980 in Coudersport, PA to the late Stephen Chilson and Rose Treat Chilson, passed away unexpectedly at home on September 4, 2019.

Chris was a longtime resident of North Carolina and a graduate of Randleman Senior High School, Class of 1998.

He was employed by the State of North Carolina Department of Revenue as a Field Auditor in the Commercial Motor Fuels Division. Previously, he was a long-time Team Facilitator with Verizon Wireless in their Wilmington, NC Area Operations Center. He graduated with honors from two Associate in Applied Science degree programs, one in Aviation Management from Guilford Technical Community College and one in Accounting from Cape Fear Community College, as well as a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Strayer University, all while being employed full time.

Chris had many hobbies and interests, and loved all things Jeep. He enjoyed multiple trail riding adventures and road trips with his beautiful wife and daughter. He was an amazing husband and wonderful father, who loved to grill out with his family at every opportunity. He collected watches and took joy in adding to his collection. He delighted in the simple rituals, such as his morning coffee and watching programs about cars. He had a broad base of knowledge and trivia, and loved sharing it with those around him, especially with his daughter, with whom he would read and teach about a myriad of subjects. Thanks to his tutelage, she is now one well-versed kid in everything from chain reactions, to dinosaurs, to how sound travels. He taught himself how to surf and could often be found catching a wave after work while residing in Kure Beach, NC. He had several sailing adventures with his longtime best friend Eric aboard his sailboat Epiphany. He was also a certificated Private Pilot, having obtained this certification with his brother, Shaun, as his flight instructor. He was a modern day McGuyver and could figure out how to fix most anything, given a pocket-knife and some time (and perhaps some duct tape here and there). He had a quick wit, an easy smile, and was fast friends with most people he encountered. He will be missed by so many.

He is survived by his loving wife Amber (Permar) Chilson; his adoring daughter Ashtyn Chilson; mother Rose (Treat) Chilson and stepfather Lee Manges of Asheboro, NC; brother Shaun Chilson of Kure Beach, NC; stepsister Tracy (Ken) France of Sinclairville, NY; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and multiple friends who were like extended family. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, his father, and a paternal uncle.

Friends will be received Friday, September 13, 2019, from 1-2:00 PM at the Omega Funeral Service and Crematory (2120 May Drive, Burlington, NC 27215), where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, with Dr. Robert Shackleford officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the “Chilson Family Memorial”, organized by Christine Caramanica Strausbaugh and Lauren Griffin on the GoFundMe social media platform-- which will assist his wife Amber in making the difficult transition to single parenthood, as well as to The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline organization.
