Billie "Jean" Fortenberry Blevins, 87, of Burlington passed away on April 14, 2021 at AuthoraCare Collective Hospice Home in Burlington.

Jean was born in IttaBena, Mississippi on October 27, 1933 the daughter of the late William Henderson Fortenberry and Mary Geneva Fortenberry. She graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC where Bill was working to activate a nuclear power plant and then went on to teach English in Las Cruses School District in Las Cruses, New Mexico where she eventually retired. Jean also taught school in North Carolina.

Jean learned a new way of life and the love of cultures as she and Bill traveled the world for his work as an Atomic Power Engineer. Jean had a love for literature that continued with audio books when she could not continue to read print. After retiring and coming to NC she found a home in Elon as well as Elon Community Church. The church meant a lot to Jean and they supported her throughout life’s ups and downs.  She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and sister. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Durwood Blevins, two sons, Mark William and Michael Haley Blevins and a grandson, Jason Blevins.

Surviving are a son David James Blevins; her daughter, Vicki Jean Goodier; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Janice Faye Warrener and Sandra Dill Morris; a brother Russell Fortenberry as well as numerous other family members and good friends.

A Memorial Celebration of Jean's life will be held at 11 am on Friday April 30th at Elon Community Church with Rev. Randy Orwig officiating. Interment will be at Alamance Memorial Park Cemetery.
