Arbie Jonathan Evans of Mebane, NC passed away Wednesday, July 28th at UNC Medical Center at the age of 85.

Arbie was born in Blairsville, GA on May 12th, 1936, and was the son of Johnie Freda Hood Evans and Lester Evans (both deceased). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, June Evans. Arbie was an expert welder and pipeliner, traveling all over the US and to Africa as a welder to help construct a natural gas pipeline through Nigeria. Millions of people heat their homes and cook their meals with natural gas flowing through pipes that Arbie welded and laid in the ground all over the east coast and western US.

He was an avid woodworker, gardener, and skilled marksman, winning multiple shooting competitions during his younger years including the NC Class C State Championship in trap shooting. He loved hunting, fishing, and riding his grandkids around on his backhoe. His most treasured role was dad to his three children and Paw Paw to his four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Arbie was the beloved dad of three children, Susan Evans Creager and husband Chris Chatman of Mebane, Yvonne Evans Morrison and husband Ken Morrison of Graham, and Arbie Jonathan Evans, Jr. and wife Jennifer Evans of Mebane. His grandchildren are Kaleb Langley (wife Blair), Kendall Morrison, Katie Evans, and Andrew Evans. His great grandchildren are AJ Langley and Watson Langley.
