Walter "Maxie" Shumate Obituary
Maxie Shumate of Elon, NC passed away November 27, 2018 at Hospice of Alamance County. He was born January 4, 1940 in Danville, VA to the late Howard Lindsey and Mary Catherine Scott Shumate. He lived in Danville for most of his life but resided in Elon, NC since 1993.
Maxie is survived by a daughter, Shannon Lee Hardy of Gibsonville, NC and two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also, his sister Marie S. Buck and husband Charles of Greensboro, NC. Two special nephews Anthony and Timothy Buck. His special friend and special caregiver Ms. Teresa Perry and his beloved cat “Smoky”.
Funeral services are on Friday, December 7, 11:00 AM at Open Bible Baptist Church, 610 Beaumont Avenue in Burlington NC. The Reverend Steve Pruitt will officiate with brother Dana Strader. He will be interred at Danville Memorial Gardens at a later date.
