Walter Robert Smith, Jr. 89 of Mebane passed away peacefully at home on Monday March 11, 2019.
Walter was born in Rockingham County on May 28, 1929 the son of the late Walter Robert Smith, Sr and Susie Strader Smith. He was a US Army Korean War Veteran and worked as a self employed entrepreneur for most of his life.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years Jean Swaney Smith of the home; three sons, Chuck Smith and wife Lou Ann, Clifford Smith and wife Pat and Robert Smith; two brothers, Jack Smith and Kenneth Smith; four grandchildren, Steven Smith, Barry Summers, Todd Williams and David Williams and eight great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of Walters caregivers during his final days as well as Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday at Hopedale Church, 909 Deep Creek Church Road Burlington, NC with Rev. Dan Cubino and Rev Bob Cauthren officiating. Military honors will follow the service at the church. The family will receive friends from 11 am until the time of the service at the church. Sign an online register book at www.omegafsc.com.
