Robert Steer

Robert L. Steer died on July 30th, 2018 at the age of 91. He was the son of Clara and Robert Steer of Ottawa Illinois. He spent two years in the Army Air Force, serving with the occupation forces in Germany.

Bob graduated from Purdue University in 1951 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Bob was a registered professional engineer in the state of New York, and obtained an MBA from New York University. Most of his career was with International General Electric doing design and construction of power plants in countries all across the globe.

Bob and Grace retired to Sanford North Carolina in 1991, and moved to Twin Lakes Community in Burlington North Carolina in 2008, where they recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. Bob’s wife Grace is still at Twin Lakes. His son Dr. Robert Steer lives in Bernardsville NJ, son Peter Steer lives in Norwalk CT, and the family of his son Thomas J. Steer lives in Encinitas CA. Bob and Grace’s three sons have brought 8 grandchildren into the family.

We all miss him and hold cherished memories about how wonderful our Granddad, Father and Husband, and friend Robert L Steer was to all of us. Rather than a formal service, we invite you to think kindly of Bob when you recall your memories of time with him.
