James Howard Bowman

James H. Bowman 72 passed away suddenly and peacefully on Thursday, March 14,2019 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.  He was born in Burlington, NC on October 8, 1946.  He was a son of John W. Bowman, Jr. and Mabel Evans Bowman. He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, his ability to fix nearly anything and his love for the beach, especially Carolina Beach, where he lived for many years.  He was a welder by trade and a talented artist.  He enjoyed deep sea fishing and scuba diving.  In recent years he enjoyed flower gardening and sitting by the fire pit listening to music with his beloved dog Trixie by his side.  
His life was turned upside down in September 2018 as he lost his home and everything he owned  in Burgaw, due to the flooding caused by Hurricane Florence.  We now look at this as a blessing that we couldn't recognize at the time.  Little did we know that because of it he was able to spend the last six months of his life at the home of his daughter Wendy and her family.  
Preceding him in death are his parents, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Hope Hursey.  He is survived by his daughters, Wendy (Mark) Bryant and Jessica (Chris) Hursey both of Elon.  His grandchildren, Ali and Jacob Bryant, Savannah, Bud (Geena), Tyler and Colton Hursey.  Great-grandchildren, Trey and Kira.  Brother, John (Linda) Bowman, III. of Durham.  Sisters, Beverly (George) Coleman of Burlington and Jennifer (Brenda) Johnson of Savannah, GA.  Six nephews and two nieces and several cousins.  His former wife and mother of his children, Janice Walker.  
Per his wishes, the family will scatter his ashes near Carolina Beach.
