Mebane,

Douglas Lane "Doug" Harris, 63, of Mebane passed away on Sunday July 30, 2017 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. 

Doug was born in Fairmont, West Virginia on May 20, 1954 the son of the late David Harris and Maxine DeMoss Harris. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1972 and enlisted in the US Army where he served with the First Calvary Division. He worked for 15 years as an underground mechanic and electrician in the West Virginia coal mines before he decided to return to school and get his degree in Computer Technology. Doug worked for LabCorp and NC State in the IT Department. His hobbies were photography, Pittsburgh Steelers and WVU Football and Basketball. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by a sister, Debra Burnside. On August 23,1974, he married the former Ava VanGilder who survives.  

Surviving in addition to his wife Ava of Mebane is one son, Jason Harris and wife Karen of Spring Lake; and a nephew David Revay of Corpus Christi, TX. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm on Friday at Omega Funeral Service & Crematory Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
