Arthur Owen Ford, known to his friends and family as "Doc", went to his forever home in the early morning hours of January 8, 2019 at 79 years young. He was preceded by his beloved wife of 55 years, Betty Carol Paschal, parents Bessie and Thomas Hunter Ford, and 12 treasured siblings. He is survived by daughter Ginger Paschal Hawkins; granddaughters Ginna Browning-Knighten and husband, Christopher Knighten; Haley Browning and children, Lanniee, Kendra, Kal-El, and Avalee; and grandson Nicholas Poole.
The family would like to extend a special recognition to nephew, Steve Hamlett, for the time he spent with Doc, for their talks about baseball and politics, for taking him to poker games and out to eat, and ensuring that he had a shoulder to lean on.
Doc enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, golf, poker, flounder gigging, and the many years he spent as an active judge for the American Kennel Club and American Brace Beagling Association's Field Trials along the East Coast.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, stationed in South Korea from 1958-1959, in the footsteps of his brother Alvis "Bud" Ford, and was very proud of his only grandson, Nicholas Taylor Poole, for enlisting in the United States Army, continuing the tradition of a family of soldiers.
Out of respect for Doc's wishes, there will be no service. The family would like to send a special thanks to our Hospice Care Team, both at home and within the Hospice Home, for being attentive to his care and a source of comfort during his battle with cancer. Donations can be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance and Caswell Counties at 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
