Marilynn Crowell George, 82, of Burlington, NC, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the Village of Brookwood located in Burlington, NC.

Marilynn was born to Dr. Lester and Elaine Deal Crowell, Jr. in Lincolnton, NC on December 5, 1934, the 2nd of 5 children.  Those left to rejoice in her life include her husband of 63 years, Buddy George of Burlington, NC, daughter Novella Jane Landreth (husband, John) of Chapel Hill, NC and son Chip George of SC, 3 grandchildren including Anna George Johnsen (husband, Ben) of Durham, NC, Christopher George (wife, Christine) of Staffordsville, VA. and Thomas Landreth of Washington, DC and 8 great grandchildren including Asher, Madeline, Isabel, Lucy and Katherine Johnsen of Durham, NC and Alexa, Nathan and Julian George of Staffordsville, VA.

Surviving siblings include Dr. Gordon Crowell (wife, Francie) and Jenny Crowell of Lincolnton, NC and Ruth Luckett (husband, Doug) of Marietta, GA.  Her sister, Chrissy Campbell of Lincolnton, NC predeceased her.

Marilynn’s greatest legacy and source of pleasure were her faith and her family.  She loved and rejoiced in her God and was devoted to her mother and father, husband, 2 children, 3 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  She also took pride in her nursing career which included working in the Neuro-Intensive Care Unit at the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC, various floors at Cleveland Regional Medical Center (Emergency Room, Surgical Intensive Care and other areas) in Shelby, NC and a nursing facility in Shelby, NC.

Marilynn never met a stranger; she had a loving, generous, tolerant and accepting spirit.  She loved to travel and possessed a deep appreciation for other cultures and traditions.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Gathering Place at the Village of Brookwood in Burlington, NC and will be officiated by Chaplain Jeff Knudson.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nursing, medical and chaplain staff at The Village of Brookwood and Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for the love and support (medical and emotional) provided to Marilynn and to our entire family.  Losing our wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother has caused great sadness, but the support from the Village at Brookwood and Hospice teams has truly helped our family manage our grief.  Works cannot truly express how much their support has meant to all of us.
