Galax,
Karen Lynn Helm Cates, 41 of Galax, Virginia formerly of Burlington passed away suddenly on Sunday March 20, 2016 at Wake Forest University Medical Center. 

Karen was born in Alamance County on April 3. 1974 the daughter of Kenneth and Shirley Goodson Helm. She was employed in retail most of her life and was a determined and hard worker. 

Surviving in addition to her parents of Graham are a son, Cody Mason Cates of Galax, Va.; a daughter, Ann Marie Abigail Cates of Galax, Va.; two sisters, Kimla Handy and husband Cavin of Graham and Kelly Helm of Haw River; three nieces, Ciera Handy, Kerrie Handy and Tiffany Bowman; a great nephew Levi Fultz and a great niece Claire Bowman. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday March 30, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Graham. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
